A few updates

I have a few things still listed at Capella:

A newborn Twisty Trousers Santa set:

An infant size cable-knit Santa hat:

Toddler longies:

I also have these lovely soft and snuggly hand-knit and hand-dyed women's socks listed at Their Own Knitted World:

I am in the process of updating my customs list. January is filled already, but I will be adding February spots soon, at either Capella or Their Own Knitted World. Keep your eyes peeled for them and grab them fast, because I will be cutting back a little on how many custom orders I will do each month. If you miss a spot and are looking for Twisty Trousers, check out my list of licensed Twisty Trousers Knitters. There are now three other talented knitters able to make Twisty Trousers for you!

I told you I'm no good at this

I know, it's been over a week since I updated...didn't I say I'm not very good at these things?

Not blogging doesn't mean I haven't been busy!

Here's some of what I've been working on...

More brown Twisty Trousers...these are what the last pair were actually supposed to look like:

Laura's girly ruffled braided Twisty Trousers on Retro Baby Knits' "Enchanted":

And my longies for the October stocking at Their Own Knitted World...Stash Up Yarns' "Harvest Gold" in girly 18M longies with a lace cuff:

I've also been sneaking in a little time to work on more fall woollies for my own little guy, shhh! He's finally going to have his own pair of Twisty Trousers (his only pair until now were my very first, rather flawed, prototype pair).

The really big news is that my Twisty Trousers pattern is going to be available very soon! Look for it at Their Own Knitted World's stocking this Thursday, October 8, at 9pm Eastern. I'm very excited about this and I hope some you will be too.

It's International Babywearing Week!

This week is International Babywearing Week! I don't generally plan to write a lot of stuff here that's not related to knitting, but babywearing is something very near and dear to me. I have three children, and have worn them all; my 4-year-old still occasionally asks to "go on your back" and my 17-month-old has been worn at least part of every day of his life by his daddy or me. Babywearing is one of the absolutely best parenting decisions we ever made, in so many ways. If you're interested in learning more about babywearing, the link above is a great place to start. The forums at TheBabyWearer were my online "home" for several years, as well.

In honor of IBW, here are some of my favorite babywearing pictures of my family:

As this year's theme says..."Close Enough to Kiss":

Almost caught up!

Last week, I finished these gorgeous brown Twisty Trousers:

And then I found out that I had misread my emails and had done them in the wrong cable pattern! Luckily I had more of this yarn on hand and was able to knit a new pair without ripping this pair completely out. Therefore, this pair will be available soon at Their Own Knitted World!

I knitted as fast as I possibly could this week and managed to get both pairs done for Ronda without
too much of a delay.

Medium Twisty Trousers in Moss green Cestari:

And the correct brown pair, XL braided cable Twisty Trousers:

And both pairs together--won't these look cute on big brother and little brother?

This weekend I have been working on the semi-custom order from September's Nurturing Threads stocking at Their Own Knitted World. This is "Wicked Rainbow":

I hope to be done in a couple of days and then move on to Laura's newborn/small Twisty Trousers.

Simple pleasures

I love knitting cables. I love working with gorgeous hand-dyed colorways. Sometimes I even love doing both at once. But sometimes...simple is better. I have quite a few cool and funky and interesting pairs of longies planned for my toddler for this fall/winter. But I also wanted to be able to dress him in a nice solid pair of "slacks" without having to give up our wool to do so. So I whipped up the plainest, simplest pair of longies I've ever done--solid navy blue Cestari with an elastic waist and a half-linen stitch cuff:

The XL brown Twisty Trousers are still in progress...I'm on the second leg but I haven't taken a picture since I took this one yesterday morning:

I also cast on the baby brother pair in Moss green last night since the brown pair is too big to fit in my project bag now and I needed a small project to take with me last night. I'm hoping to get a ton of pictures of that pair as I work on them so I can use the pictures for my Twisty Trousers pattern, which is getting closer and closer to completion.

Quick update, no pictures

My camera needs to be charged, and I can't seem to remember to plug it in until I'm doing something else...like writing a blog post about how my camera needs to be charged.

I finished the longies for my toddler, so yay for his third pair of mama-made longies for this coming fall/winter! They're just very plain solid navy blue Cestari, but they'll be perfect as "slacks" or "jeans" depending on what shirt he has on with them.

I'm halfway through the leg of the XL brown Twisty Trousers for Rhonda! Hoping to finish them by tomorrow evening but I'm a bit under the weather this week and that has slowed me down some.

And now I swear I'm going to submit this post and go straight over to plug my camera in!

Moving on to September!

Emily's Mosaic Moon scrappies are done, dry and ready to ship out:

That finishes up my August slots, so I'm casting on my first September order tonight. That will be 2 pairs of Twisty Trousers for Ronda; XL on Thistle Pod (brown) and Medium on Moss (green).

September Stocking Preview

Their Own Knitted World will be stocking with Nurturing Threads on September 10! This month I made a newborn-size boyish set on "Robin Hood." Julie at apples + octopi is appliqueing an adorable rocket ship on a long-sleeved tee, so I added an embellished cargo pocket to match it. Hopefully we will have pictures of the complete set in a day or two, but in the meantime, here's a sneak peek:

I also finished up Emily's scrappies; they're blocking now but I snapped a quick picture of them first:

Next up for custom orders will be sibling pairs of Twisty Trousers in green and brown but first I'm going to try to make some progress on some simple navy blue longies for my own toddler.

Sunday Knitting

In theory, Sunday is my day for personal knitting, but it rarely actually works out that way. This week is no exception, as I have a deadline quickly approaching for September's Their Own Knitted World stocking. So first I did manage to sneak in a few rows of something that's not only personal knitting, but knitting for me--a pair of socks! This yarn was custom dyed for me by my congo-mate Shelly of Bear & Pants to match a favorite baby wrap:

Those are two-at-a-time, toe-up socks and not a very small bikini.

I worked on Emily's Mosaic Moon scrappies for a good while last night and today, and will be starting the first leg tomorrow:

And finally I'm hoping to finish up this pair of newborn longies for the September TOKW stocking...this is Nurturing Threads' "Robin Hood" colorway on silky soft BFL: This will be part of a collaboration with Julie at apples + octopi and will include longies, an appliqued tee, and possibly a hat.

With any luck I will get caught up this week and actually have time to work on some longies for my own toddler next Sunday, but I'm not holding my breath yet.

Teeny Twisties

These sweet little newborn-size Twisty Trousers and matching hat were knitted with a lovely, soft, squishy kettle-dyed Malabrigo. They're on their way to their new home now to await the arrival of a special little baby boy.

Next up is a pair of scrappy pants for Emily's little girl, made from all of these scrumptious scraps from the Mosaic Moon Scrappy Club:

I'm also working on the longies for the September stocking at Their Own Knitted World; this month I'm doing boyish newborn longies on Nurturing Threads' "Robin Hood" colorway. This will once again be a collaboration with Julie of apples + octopi, who is whipping up an adorable shirt to go with the longies.

"Do you have a pattern?"

That (and variations of that) is by far the most common question I'm asked about Twisty Trousers: "Do you have a pattern?" "Where can I buy your pattern?" "Will you tell me how to make those?" "Can I be a test knitter for you?"

Until recently, no I didn't have a pattern. My "pattern" was sketches and scribbles and half-legible notes and calculations in a couple of notebooks. But lately I've been working hard at writing the patten. At this point it's in the hands of my test knitters for a first round of testing. Depending on how that goes (I do have revisions to make already) then the pattern will be available for sale in the near future. Eventually I'll be offering a few different cottage licensing options as well for anyone who would like to make Twisty Trousers for sale/customs.

Customs List

Instead of keeping a customs list months out, I will be stocking custom slots periodically at Their Own Knitted World or Capella. I will post here when a spot will be stocking soon. If you don't see an available spot and are interested in reserving one, please feel free to contact me by email at cabbageskingsknits@gmail.com.

I'm blogging!

In an attempt to keep my customers informed about my progress and just for the sake of those interested in my process and progress and my life, I'm going to try to start blogging regularly. I'm usually terrible at all types of journaling, though, so bear with me!
